Common types of Headaches

Tension Headaches

Tension headaches, sometimes called stress headaches, are the most common type of headache in adults. They occur when neck and scalp muscles become tense or contract. The pain is dull and aching, and can range from mild to moderate. People often describe feeling a tight band around the head.

Migraines

A migraine is an intense and debilitating type of recurring headache. Migraine headache pain ranges from moderate to severe, is often described as throbbing or pulsing, and usually occurs on one side of the head. During a migraine attack, you may experience muscle tension, nausea and vomiting, nasal congestion, and increased sensitivity to light and sound.

Sinus Headaches

A sinus headache causes pain and pressure around your eyes, cheekbones, and forehead. It is characterized by a thick nasal discharge and is commonly accompanied by a fever. Many people who assume they have sinusitis are actually experiencing migraines or tension-type headaches. It’s important to discuss your symptoms with a healthcare professional to ensure proper treatment.
