There are many different types of STDs. When it comes to STDs, early detection is the key. Genital Herpes


Genital herpes is one of the more common STDs. It's estimated that one in five Americans suffer from this disease. It's caused by the HSV-1 and the HSV-2 virus. The main symptom is painful blisters in the genital region. Herpes is a virus and there isn't a cure for it, however you can take medication to manage it.


Chlamydia is one of the most common curable STD. The most common symptoms are pain during sex, and discharge from the penis or vagina. The reason chlamydia is so common is that most people don't exhibit the symptoms for weeks, months, and sometimes years. That's one of the reasons it's important to get tested.


Also referred to as "the clap", gonorrhea is a common bacterial STD. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there are more than 120 cases of gonorrhea for every 100,000 people in the United States alone, and that number has been growing for several years.
